The Enterprise Browser Overview

Official Island film · 3:19 · Watch on Vimeo

What it is

A browser for work apps, with rules you decide.

The Island Enterprise Browser is a Chromium-based browser, built on the same engine as Chrome and Edge. Your team opens the apps they already use in it: email, practice management, matter management, tax software, client portals. For each app, the browser follows the rules you set for moving data out of it.

It runs on company computers and on personal ones. A contractor on a home laptop opens your client portal inside the same rules as everyone else, with nothing to install on the rest of their machine beyond the browser itself.

What it controls

The actions that move data out of a work app.

Each one is a rule: allow it, add a watermark, or block it. You decide what each app allows; the browser enforces it.

  • Copy and paste

Decide whether text from a work app can be pasted somewhere else, such as a personal email or a personal AI chat.

  • Downloads

Decide which files can be saved to the computer at all, so a full patient chart or a client's return does not end up in a personal folder.

  • Uploads

Decide where work files can be uploaded, so a document does not go to a personal file-sharing account for convenience.

  • Printing and screenshots

Decide whether a page from a work app can be printed, saved as a page, or captured on screen.

Where data actually leaves

Computer protection watches the computer. Work account protection watches the account. This watches the work.

Neither decides whether a document can be pasted into a personal chat or saved to a home drive. The browser does. The shortlist it is built for:

  • A full patient chart downloaded to a personal folder.
  • A client's tax return uploaded to a personal file-share.
  • A confidential matter summary pasted into a personal AI chat.
  • A screenshot of a client record.
  • A contractor on their own laptop in a client portal, with no boundary at all.
  • A signed engagement letter printed to PDF and saved outside the firm's storage.

Who it is for

Practices whose day runs in web apps.

  • Dental practices

Reception and clinical staff spend the day in the practice-management portal, imaging tools and email. Patient data lives in those windows, and a download to a personal device is one way it leaves the practice.

  • Law firms

Associates and partners live in case management, document management, court-filing portals, e-signature and email. Confidential material walks out through a paste into a personal chat, an unsanctioned upload, or a save to a home cloud drive.

  • CPA and accounting firms

Filing season runs in web apps: tax software, client portals, payroll and e-signature. Seasonal contractors may work on their own computers, and client financial data is in every window.

  • Financial advisers and small investment firms

The custodian portal, the CRM, planning software, e-signature and email all run in the browser, so that is where client account data sits all day. The exposure is a statement or a client list downloaded to a personal computer, or pasted into a personal AI chat.

Cybersecurity for small RIAs and solo advisers, including Regulation S-P support and month-to-month options.

How it fits your plan

Included in Ridge Plus and Ridge Reserve. Also available separately.

  • Ridge Plus

    $50 / person / mo

The browser is included, with safer email and staff training on top of Ridge Core.

    See Ridge Plus
  • Ridge Reserve

    $70 / person / mo

Everything in Ridge Plus, with a written plan for when something goes wrong and regular checks.

    See Ridge Reserve
  • Start with the browser alone

    $18 per user per month

Month to month with no minimum number of users. One user is fine. Add-ons are priced separately. Move up to Ridge Plus later and the browser is already part of it, with nothing more to pay for it.

    Standalone options

The browser has no additional charge in Ridge Plus and Ridge Reserve. It sits on top of everything in Ridge Core: Huntress Managed EDR on every computer, and ITDR watching your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace accounts. We run the admin console; you tell us what each app should allow.

What it is not

What the browser does not do.

  • Not endpoint detection. It does not replace Managed EDR. Malware on the computer is still Huntress's job.
  • Not identity threat detection. ITDR still watches your accounts for token theft and suspicious mail rules.
  • Not backup. It does not back up your work, and we do not sell backup yet.
  • Not a replacement for training. People still need security awareness training, which is also in Ridge Plus.
  • Not Ridge Watch. Ridge Watch is for homes and very small offices; the browser is part of the business plans.

FAQ

Questions that come up before the review.

Can a small business buy the Island Enterprise Browser for one user with no minimum, and what does it cost per month?

Obsidian Ridge deploys and manages the Island Enterprise Browser for firms of any size, including a one-person firm, at $18 per user per month, month to month with no minimum number of users, with zero-configuration initial onboarding and CISSP-led support for businesses in the Research Triangle and anywhere in the United States.

Managed browser policies give your business control over work-app access and how client data is copied, downloaded, uploaded or printed; we resell Island and earn money when you buy it through us.

Who resells the Island Enterprise Browser to small businesses in North Carolina?

At Obsidian Ridge, we supply, deploy and manage the Island Enterprise Browser for small businesses in North Carolina, including one-person firms.

We serve Raleigh, Durham and the Research Triangle as well as businesses across the United States, at $18 per user per month, month to month with no minimum number of users; add-ons are priced separately.

Is there a minimum number of users?

No. One user is fine. Obsidian Ridge deploys and manages the Island Enterprise Browser at $18 per user per month, month to month, and you can cancel any time. Add-ons are priced separately.

Do you only work with businesses in North Carolina?

No. We serve businesses in the Research Triangle and across the United States, and we already support firms outside North Carolina. The browser and its admin console are managed from the cloud, so setup and support do not depend on where your office is.

Can downloads be blocked from reaching the computer?

Yes. For each work app, a download can be allowed, watermarked or blocked, so a client file never lands in a personal folder. The same per-app rules cover copy and paste, uploads, printing and screen capture.

Do staff sign in with the accounts we already use?

Yes. Island works with the identity provider your firm already has, and names Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and Okta on its own site. We confirm your provider and the sign-in flow before we deploy.

What is a managed enterprise browser?

A web browser built for work, with rules your business sets.

Obsidian Ridge includes the Island Enterprise Browser in Ridge Plus and Ridge Reserve: your work apps open in it, and its rules decide what can be copied, pasted, downloaded, uploaded, printed or captured on screen.

We set it up and run it for you.

Does it cost extra?

No. It is included in Ridge Plus ($50 / person / mo) and Ridge Reserve ($70 / person / mo). The standalone browser service is also available at $18 per user per month, month to month with no minimum number of users; add-ons are priced separately.

Will my team have to learn a new browser?

The Island Enterprise Browser is built on Chromium, the same engine as Chrome and Edge, so it looks and works much like the browser your team already uses. Work apps open in it the way they do today.

Does it work on personal laptops?

Yes. It runs on company computers and on personal ones, so a contractor or a seasonal worker on a home laptop opens your work apps inside the same rules.

Does it replace our EDR or identity monitoring?

No. Managed EDR still watches the computer and ITDR still watches your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace accounts. Both are in Ridge Core, and so in every plan that includes the browser.
