Refund & Cancellation Policy

Obsidian Ridge is pre-LLC and not yet collecting live payments through this Site. This policy documents how refunds and cancellations will work the moment paid services go live. Visitors who book a briefing, request an assessment, or join the launch list pay nothing today; nothing in this policy creates a payment obligation until you sign an engagement agreement.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers anything purchased from obsidianridge.io once payments go live. It applies in addition to your signed engagement agreement. Where the engagement agreement and this policy disagree on a specific paid engagement, the engagement agreement controls.
2. Cyber Insurance Readiness Sprint
The Sprint is a fixed-fee engagement (currently $1,500 to $3,500 depending on tier). Refunds follow the stage of work completed:
- Full refund if you cancel before the kickoff call. No questions asked.
- 50% refund if you cancel after kickoff but before any deliverable has been shared with you in writing.
- 25% refund if you cancel after the first deliverable but before the final evidence packet and remediation roadmap.
- No refund once the final evidence packet and remediation roadmap are delivered. The work is done. Re-scoping, gap clarification, and a single 30-minute follow-up are included in the original fee at any time within 60 days of delivery.
3. SMB Managed Security tiers
Essentials, Protected, and Managed are monthly subscriptions (see /business for current pricing). Cancellation rules:
- Cancel any time, no penalty. No long-term contract is required. We will confirm cancellation in writing and end service at the close of the current billing period.
- No prorated refund for partial months. The tools and SOC coverage are provisioned and active through the end of the period you have paid for.
- Onboarding setup fees are refundable only if cancelled within 7 calendar days of payment and before any tools have been deployed or accounts provisioned on your behalf.
- Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle and require a 7-day notice so we can adjust tooling and reporting.
4. Personal & Family Security tiers
Foundation, Protected, and Family plans (see /individuals) mix one-time setup work with optional ongoing support. Cancellation rules:
- Foundation setup ($199 one-time)— full refund if you cancel before the scheduled session, or within 7 days of the session if you believe the work was not what you expected. We will discuss what went wrong and refund the full amount.
- Protected ($199 setup + $39/month)— setup fee refundable as above. Monthly fees are cancellable any time, with service continuing through the end of the current billing period and no prorated refund for partial months.
- Family ($199 setup + $89/month)— same as Protected. The family add-on for a fourth and beyond device, if added separately, follows the same monthly cancellation pattern.
- Single-incident sessions(the $250 ad hoc help engagement) are refundable until the session is delivered. After delivery, refunds are at the practitioner's discretion based on outcome.
5. AI Security Assessment
The AI Security Assessment ($500 to $800) is a one-time engagement. Refund rules match the Cyber Insurance Readiness Sprint pattern in Section 2: full before kickoff, 50% after kickoff but before any deliverable, 25% after the first deliverable but before the final memo, and no refund after the final remediation memo is delivered.
6. Free assessments and content
The three free assessments (Cyber Insurance Readiness, AI Use & Shadow AI Risk, SMB Security Posture) on /assessment-tool, the Phish or Real game, the newsletter, and all article content are free. No charge means no refund applies. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email.
7. Affiliate purchases
When you click an affiliate link and buy directly from a partner vendor (1Password, Guardio, Backblaze, or any other vendor we link to through obsidianridge.io/go/<vendor>), that purchase is with the vendor, not with Obsidian Ridge.Refunds, cancellations, and disputes are handled directly by the vendor under their policy. We can sometimes help you navigate the vendor's process; we cannot issue refunds for purchases we did not collect payment for.
8. How to request a refund or cancel
Email security@obsidianridge.io from the email address associated with the engagement. Include:
- The engagement you want to cancel or refund (Sprint, tier name, plan, or invoice number).
- The reason, if you want to share one. We read it, but no reason is required.
- Whether you want a refund, a downgrade, a pause, or a full cancellation.
We will respond within two business days, confirm the action in writing, and process any refund within 10 business days using the original payment method.
9. Chargebacks
If you have a billing concern, contact us first. We will work to resolve it directly. Initiating a chargeback with your card issuer before contacting us slows resolution and triggers card-network fees that may delay or reduce any refund you are owed. Repeat chargebacks made without prior attempt to contact us may result in suspension of future service per Section 17 of our Terms of Use.
10. Force majeure and good-faith adjustments
If an event outside reasonable control (serious illness, natural disaster, infrastructure outage at a sub-processor, regulatory action) prevents Obsidian Ridge from delivering contracted services, we will work in good faith to reschedule, substitute, or refund the affected portion. The aim is fairness on both sides, not a strict reading of clauses.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as offers, pricing, and operations evolve. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Changes apply only to engagements purchased after the change date, not retroactively.
